The Yellow Brick House
Our History
The Yellow Brick House is built of yellow brick, hence our name, and features distinctive architecture from the 1920’s.
The original residence was built by Dr. & Mrs. Thomas W. Stewart as their private home and place of business. A physician in the Lithonia area for over forty years, Dr. Stewart’s office was in the basement of the home and there are many colorful and heartwarming stories from that era. Dr. Stewart was the last “horse & buggy” doctor in DeKalb County and the goodwill he created still exists today.
The private residence was converted to an assisted living facility in 1988 with the addition of 22,000 square feet of living space. Included in the renovation were thirty resident’s apartments, three activity rooms, a dining room, lobby, porches, beauty salon, industrial kitchen, and laundry. Every effort was made to maintain the flavor of the past while adding the conveniences of the present.
In 2003, a secure wing was created from the original floorplan to provide Alzheimer’s Care.
The Stewart family still owns and personally manages the Yellow Brick House with the help of our excellent staff.

Features & Amenities
Location
The Yellow Brick House is one level, completely ramped and handicap accessible featuring 8 Assisted Living and 24 Memory Care apartments. Licensed for 52 residents, we offer private as well as semi-private apartments. A variety of porches with comfortable seating, activity and craft areas, two dining areas, a main lobby with fireplace, and a formal area available for visiting or private parties complete the package. We also feature a beauty salon, private mailboxes, and wide well-lit corridors with skylights.
Buildings
We consider one of our best assets to be location. One mile north of I-20, convenient to Rockdale, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, we are five minutes from Stonecrest, a major regional mall with restaurants and shopping, fifteen minutes from Piedmont Rockdale Medical Center and five minutes from Emory DeKalb Medical Center at Hillandale. This combined with a small town community with active churches and creates a warm community feeling.
Security
The Yellow Brick House features the most current security systems: Individual pendants for Senior Living residents
• Monitored security system for entire building
• Monitored emergency alarm system for fire or other disaster
• Panic bars for exiting in an emergency
• Regular fire and emergency evacuation drills
Apartments
All apartments are one-room studios with approximately 330 square feet. Each apartment features a private bath, two windows with blinds, two large closets and a kitchen area with refrigerator and cabinets.
Our People
Humera Savaja
Humera Savaja, OTR is an Occupational therapist for 17 years and provided services for children with different abilities. She also has experience in running successful Personal care homes for 7 years. Humera is passionate about providing quality services to her residents. She oversees residents' care personally and provides oversight over each aspect of their wellbeing.
Humera is passionate about weight training and traveling.
Daquiri Warner
Daquiri has been part of YBH for 17years as a CNA.
I have passion for elder care and end of life care. Making sure they are comfortable and happy. Just to know that they have gained a friend in me and I love that we become family. My hobbies are dinning out, experiencing new things, traveling, shopping and just hanging out with family and friends.
Collette Oludipe
