The Yellow Brick House... Quality Assisted Living For Seniors

History

The original Yellow Brick House was built in the early 1920's by Dr. & Mrs. T.W. Stewart as their private residence. A physician in practice for forty years in the Lithonia area, Dr. Stewart kept his office in the basement of the home. He was the last "horse & buggy" doctor in Dekalb County, and the goodwill he created in the community still exists today. After his death in 1956, his widow, Mrs. Lena Stewart, continued to live in the home until an accident forces her to leave in 1986.

The Yellow Brick House is literally built of yellow brick, and features distinctive architecture including a red tile roof. The private residence was converted into a personal care facility in 1988 after adding 22,000 square feet of living space. Included in the new addition are thirty resident's rooms, three activity rooms, a dining room, lobby, porches, beauty salon, industrial kitchen, and laundry. Every effort was made to maintain the flavor of the past while adding the conveniences of the present.

The Stewart family still owns and manages the facility with the help of a great staff.
